Chronic Yeast Infection

Yeast infections are a very common condition affecting people of all ages. Though this condition is found more often in women, it affects men too. Very often a yeast infection can become recurrent. This chronic yeast infection can have serious effects on the human body and while it will not prove fatal in almost every case, it can affect normal daily functioning to a large extent.

Chronic yeast infections are found very commonly in women and can last from several months to years. In women, chronic yeast infection occurs as a vaginal infection which is the biggest complaint women have. Many women also report that the occurrence of chronic yeast infection is more or less at the same time in every menstrual cycle which suggests that one of the causes could be hormonal imbalances.

So what causes chronic yeast infections? Chronic yeast infections are caused by the uncontrolled and prolific spread of the fungi Candida Albicans which is normally present in the human body. However sometimes due to the over use of antibiotics there may be a complete wipe out of all the microorganisms in the body, even the good ones. Unfortunately, Candida is resistant to antibiotics and the absence of other organisms allows it to quite literally take over the body systems. Chronic yeast infections generally start in the digestive and genital tracts and then spread to the rest of the body like the skin and heart.

Chronic yeast infection can also be caused by hormonal changes and imbalances in the body. This is why many pregnant women report suffering from chronic yeast infection. Apart from pregnancy other reasons why chronic yeast infection may occur due to hormonal imbalances include taking oral contraceptives (birth control pills).

Another common way in which chronic yeast infection spreads is through sexual transmission. While chronic yeast infection is not an STD, it can affect both men and women, and there is evidence that it can spread through sex too. Chronic yeast infection in men attacks the penis. However the temperature of the skin is about 77 degrees Fahrenheit and the infection remains dormant. During sexual intercourse, the vagina is warm and moist and the chronic yeast infection becomes active and spreads to the woman and can spread back to the man through the urethra.

Chronic yeast infections also spread through eating foods infected with fungi and molds. These foods include grains of all kinds, meat which contains fungi etc. The fungi in these foods kill all the body in the digestive system allowing the Candida to take over as a full blown infection.

Some other foods can also cause chronic yeast infections. These foods include peanuts and some fruits.

Apart from conditions like vaginal yeast infections, chronic yeast infections can hamper the nutrition absorption in the body. A person with chronic yeast infections may have cravings for sugar and carbohydrates which are foods that feed the yeast and thus continue the chronic yeast infections.

Alcohol also feeds a chronic yeast infection as yeast is used in its fermentation process. A typical example is beer which is made using yeast from grains.

Chronic yeast infection can be cured using a holistic treatment plan under medical supervision. Find out how you can treat and cure chronic yeast infection here.
