External Yeast Infection

Yeast infection is caused by the fungi Candida Albicans which is naturally present in the human body. Unfortunately there are times when an imbalance in the body ecology allows this Candida Albicans to multiply indiscriminately and spread all over the body, giving rise to a variety of symptoms that are typical of yeast infection. However since a lot of the symptoms are internal like migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, leaky gut syndrome, fatigue, etc, it can get difficult to identify a yeast infection as the cause. On the other hand, there are some symptoms that are external and can be seen with the naked eye. These indicate an external yeast infection and are relatively easier to identify and thus treat effectively.

An external yeast infection is one that happens on the outside of the body and since it is reachable, can be treated. Most of external yeast infections in women happen on the vagina and external genitalia, and in men external yeast infections appear on the penis.

Symptoms of external yeast infection include severe itching, soreness due to the itching, presence of white patches on the affected part of the skin, redness and scaly skin, pain, difficulty walking if the infection is on the inside of the thighs etc. When on the vagina, external yeast infection leads to a cheesy white discharge, pain during intercourse, burning on urination etc.

The causes for external yeast infection are often the same in both men and women. The most common cause for external yeast infection happens to be the use of antibiotics. Antibiotics are generally taken to get rid of harmful bacteria. However antibiotics also get rid of the beneficial ones, cleaning out the gut of all bacteria. This leaves the antibiotic resistant Candida Albicans with total control and freedom to grow. This excessive growth leads to external yeast infection among other things.

External yeast infection is also caused by the use of antibacterial soaps and douses in the genital areas. External yeast infection in the genitals is generally the result of overgrowth of yeast in that area. This is because the antibacterial soaps destroy all the bacteria that keep the yeast in control.

Wearing tight clothing also encourages external yeast infection. This is because the skin gets irritated and does not have access to fresh air. Thus heat and moisture is trapped which is a breeding ground for yeast, leading to external yeast infection. Thus wearing loose clothing, clothes that breathe like cotton, etc are essential if one is to prevent or treat external yeast infection.

Another cause of external yeast infection is the use of oral contraceptives like birth control pills. Pills have synthetic estrogen in them which has been associated with increase in levels of yeast. Thus women who are on the pill often complain of external yeast infection on the vagina.
External yeast infections can also get transmitted through sexual intercourse if one of the partners has it on their genitals.

Treatment of external yeast infection involves eliminating the causes and keeping the skin dry and clean. External yeast infection can be cured using a holistic treatment plan under medical supervision. Click here to find out how you can treat and cure external yeast infection.
