Yeast infection in men is caused by the same fungus Candida albicans which is naturally present in the human body in the mucous membrane layers like in the eyes, mouth, intestine, vagina and penis. However due to certain imbalances in the body, this fungus begins multiplying uncontrollably. This gives rise to, among other things, yeast infection in men.
Most often a yeast infection in men will not be noticed. It is only when the spouse or partner complains of a vaginal yeast infection does it come to notice. Doctors will then recommend anti-fungal medicines to the woman, and for her partner to control the yeast infection in men. The reason behind this is that one of the main causes of yeast infection in men is sexual transmission. If the woman has a vaginal yeast infection, it can enter the urethra during intercourse and settle finally in the prostate gland.
Other causes of yeast infection in men are similar to the causes of other yeast infections that occur. Yeast infection in men can be the direct result of broad spectrum antibiotics. These antibiotics rid the body of harmful bacteria as well as the beneficial bacteria that keeps the yeast under control. Once the bacteria are absent, the yeast changes to a fungus and takes over, leading to a yeast infection in men.
Another common cause of yeast infection in men is drinking beer. Yeast infection in men is often the result of excess yeast being introduced into the system through beer. This yeast appears in the form of dormant skin yeast on the penis as the temperature of the skin is 77 degrees Fahrenheit. However during sexual intercourse, the temperature of the vagina is warmer and the yeast becomes active, and infects the woman. This infection then travels right back to give rise to yeast infection in men.
Yeast infection in men is also sometimes caused by eating certain foods. Foods that are high in sugars, carbohydrates, gluten, molds and yeast often increase the yeast in the body, giving rise to yeast infection in men.
